About Us
Founded in 2013 by accomplished saxophonist Jefferson Yap, the Singapore Community Saxophone Ensemble (SCSE) is a non-profit organisation to promote the craft and artistry of saxophone performance. The SCSE comprise the entire family of saxophones ranging from the Soprano to Baritone/Bass variations.
With the philosophy that music education is intergenerational, the SCSE provides a platform for saxophone players to gather and make music. Regardless of your musical standing, whether a professional, beginner or casual saxophonist, the SCSE will give you the opportunity to perform collectively and pursue your passion.
Under the baton of Music Director Jefferson Yap and Associate Conductor/Resident Composer Tan Yan Zhang, the Singapore Community Saxophone Ensemble will nurture passionate saxophonists who have the potential to shine in the future. As a community ensemble, the SCSE will perform at fund raising concerts and a plethora of locations across the island.

Join Us
Professional Saxophonist Jefferson Yap leads this saxophone ensemble to explore many exciting types of music. The repertoire is also enriched with works from our resident composers Tan Yan Zhang and Joseph Lim, both mentored by renowned Singaporean Composers such as Dr Kelly Tang and Mr Phoon Yew Tien. Furthermore, you will enjoy exchanges with a professional Saxophone Quartet boasting members from NAFA and the SAF Central Band. Practices will only be 1.5 hrs every 2 weeks, on Sunday 7-8.30pm at Ulu Pandan CC.
Membership is totally free of charge. Joining the SCSE allows you to give back to society through the various fund-raising events/concerts throughout the year. With your participation, we will be performing for various festivals throughout the year such as Chinese New Year & Christmas. Even if you have not played the saxophone before, you are welcomed to join us for private saxophone & theory lessons with our Music Director & Resident Composers. It will definitely be an enriching experience with the Singapore Community Saxophone Ensemble, where the creation and performance of music, more than any other art, contributes to the sublime attainment which Socrates deemed most important: the understanding of oneself.
