In all, the programme will not only inspire future Saxophonist but raise a new generation of practitioners and patrons for Singapore’s developing artistic scene.
Taking place in a school assembly setting, the programme features a Saxophone Quartet led by Jefferson Yap and a charismatic host, Anthony Sherman. The programme will commence with an opening item by the Saxophone quartet. A special arrangement of pieces from a plethora of musical genres will be showcased. From the contrapuntal complexity of western art music, simplicity of folk music, syncopated rhythms of jazz music and familiarity of pop tunes, the versatility of the Saxophone family is presented. While the quartet is performing, slides with information on the various musical periods will be shown.
The next session led by the host will run through the history of the Saxophone and its developing role in the musical world. The different members of the Saxophone family will be introduced where its distinct role in the quartet is depicted. A quick explanation of the instrument’s sound production process will deepen the student’s knowledge of the saxophone.
The aforementioned academic discourse will lead to practical experience where Dummy Saxophones be distributed to student volunteers. This will see positive student engagement that will enhance the learning experience. Ending the programme, a final piece will be performed by the quartet. Ensuring that all present be part of the music making experience, percussion instruments will be distributed. Rhythmic patterns will be taught and performed alongside the Saxophone Quartet.

- Students will learn about the Saxophones’ history and role in the Musical Universe. This may spur some to take up Saxophone classes, which will deepen their love for music and the saxophone.
- Recognising that not all will have the means to take up the Saxophone, the programme will introduce students to high quality music making and hopefully generate a lifelong passion for the arts.
